Casablanca, Morocco
Your Morocco journey begins when you arrive at the airport in Casablanca, full of anticipation for the two weeks of travel ahead. The experience begins to feel real when you see your welcoming driver waiting for you.
Your driver will be an important part of your journey, helping you experience more of the real Morocco as you travel through the country.
After your arrival, your driver will take you to your hotel so you can settle in.
If your arrival time allows, you will visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. Its impressive scale and remarkable architecture make it an unforgettable introduction to Casablanca.
From outside the mosque, you can take in the salty Atlantic Ocean air while admiring its elegant 210-meter minaret. The mosque was built overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, reflecting King Hassan II’s belief that God’s throne rests upon the water.
During a guided visit, you will also have the opportunity to see the mosque’s carefully designed interior. It is one of Casablanca’s great landmarks and a memorable way to begin your Morocco journey.
After breakfast, you’ll leave Casablanca and begin your journey toward Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous blue city in the Rif Mountains.
Along the way, you’ll stop in Rabat, Morocco’s coastal capital and one of the country’s imperial cities. Compared with some of Morocco’s more heavily visited destinations, Rabat offers a quieter introduction to everyday urban life.
You’ll have lunch in Rabat before continuing north toward Chefchaouen. The drive is also a good opportunity to relax, get to know your driver, and ask for personal recommendations about places and experiences you shouldn’t miss during your time in Morocco.
As you arrive in Chefchaouen, the city’s distinctive blue-painted streets, doors, and buildings create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else on your journey. The cool shades of blue make the medina especially photogenic and immediately invite you to start exploring with your camera.
You’ll have a full day tomorrow to discover more of this remarkable mountain city.
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring Chefchaouen, the famous blue town tucked into the Rif Mountains.
Spend the day wandering through its narrow streets, surrounded by buildings, doors, and passageways painted in different shades of blue. The town’s distinctive colors and mountain setting make it especially rewarding for photography, whether you are using a professional camera or simply capturing the moment with your phone.
As you explore, stop to enjoy some of Chefchaouen’s local flavors, including freshly baked bread, fish tagine, and hot mint tea. You’ll also have time to browse the small souks, where leather goods are among the items for which the town is well known.
Depending on your interests, you can learn more about Chefchaouen’s history from your guide or spend some time hiking in the breezy mountains surrounding the town.
After breakfast, you’ll leave Chefchaouen and begin the journey toward Meknes, with a fascinating stop along the way at the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis.
Set against green hills, Volubilis offers a remarkable glimpse into Morocco’s Roman past. During your guided visit, you’ll walk among the remains of this once-busy Roman town while your guide explains the importance of its buildings and the history behind the site.
From Volubilis, you’ll continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll stop for lunch here, and your driver can suggest a favorite local place to eat.
After lunch, the journey continues to Fes, a city rich in tradition and stories. As you arrive, take time to notice the details of everyday life and, if you have the chance, try the spicy olives sold along the roadside.
Today is dedicated entirely to exploring Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital.
A professional guide will lead you through the narrow, winding streets of the medieval medina, helping you understand the history and importance of the places you visit along the way.
As you walk through the old city, you’ll see colorful slippers, hammered metalwork, carpets, traditional shops, and beautifully decorated mosaic fountains woven into everyday neighborhood life. You may also notice the aroma of freshly baked bread, while your guide explains how local bakeries and fountains have traditionally been part of each neighborhood.
You’ll visit local weavers and watch skilled artisans creating traditional textiles. This is also a chance to find a scarf that may come in handy later during your journey to the Sahara Desert.
Next, you’ll visit the famous tanneries. From a rooftop viewpoint, you’ll look across the dye-filled vats while learning how leather is traditionally prepared and colored.
After a full morning of exploring, you’ll stop for lunch at a restaurant in the medina. You can enjoy a traditional Moroccan main dish such as tagine or couscous, followed by fresh seasonal fruit.
Your guided tour continues into the afternoon before you return to your hotel or riad to relax.
Today, you’ll begin your journey south with a long drive toward Merzouga, experiencing a very different side of Morocco along the way.
After several days exploring Morocco’s lively cities, the scenery gradually changes to quieter rural landscapes. You’ll travel through the beautiful Atlas Mountains and forested areas, where you may spot playful monkeys along the route.
The drive also gives you plenty of time to talk with your driver about everything you’ve experienced so far. Feel free to ask questions and hear his personal perspective on Morocco.
Around halfway through the journey, you’ll stop for lunch in Midelt. The town is well known for its fossils, and you’ll have the opportunity to see the remarkable objects local artisans create from them.
As you continue south, the landscape begins to transform. Eventually, you’ll arrive among the dusty pink buildings of the “Gateway to the Sahara,” where the warmer, drier climate and changing scenery signal that the desert is getting close.
Spend the morning exploring the small but fascinating desert town before preparing for your journey into the Sahara.
In the afternoon, you’ll travel by four-wheel drive toward the Sahara sand dunes. At first, the landscape is flat and dusty, but as you continue, the tall dunes begin to appear and gradually fill the horizon.
The patterns and ripples across the sand can look almost like waves, creating a constantly changing desert landscape.
Later, you’ll ride by camel toward the Berber tents, crossing the dunes as the shapes and shadows of the desert change around you.
You’ll spend the night in the Berber tents, enjoying mint tea and lively music before settling in beneath the desert stars.
Wake up in the cool desert and begin the day with a camel trek back to your hotel.
From there, you’ll return to the 4×4 and make your way back to Erfoud. Your driver will then continue behind the High Atlas Mountains, passing palm groves and Berber villages as you travel toward the Todra Gorges.
As you enter the gorge, towering walls of grey and amber rock rise dramatically on both sides, creating one of the most impressive natural settings of the journey.
Take a walk through the gorge and enjoy the scale and beauty of the surrounding landscape. Along the way, you may see local shepherds and get a glimpse of everyday life in the nearby communities.
You’ll spend the night in Boumalne, near the gorges, or in Ouarzazate before continuing across the High Atlas Mountains.
Today, you’ll continue your journey toward Marrakech, one of Morocco’s most unforgettable cities.
Along the way, you’ll stop to see Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, an impressive red-clay fortified settlement recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its remarkable example of southern Moroccan architecture.
The surrounding area may feel familiar from the movies, especially as you travel through Ouarzazate, often described as Morocco’s film capital and used as a setting for many productions.
As you arrive in Marrakech, you’ll return to the energy of Moroccan city life. Make your way to the famous Djemaa el-Fna, one of the city’s best-known gathering places.
In the evening, the square comes alive with storytellers, entertainers, food stalls, and the aromas of sizzling barbecue. As you explore, you may hear the distinctive sound of traditional water sellers and smell spices drifting through the busy stalls.
If you want a quieter moment away from the activity, stop for a cup of tea on the terrace of a nearby café and enjoy a view over the lively square below.
Today, a professional guide will take you through some of Marrakech’s must-see attractions, helping you make the most of your time in this world-famous city.
You’ll explore the maze-like souks of the medina, where you can browse for souvenirs and try your hand at bargaining. The markets are filled with traditional goods, including leather products, hand-painted pottery, and heavy silver jewelry.
You’ll also visit the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs.
At the Bahia Palace, you’ll discover an impressive example of Moroccan architecture and learn how the palace was restored after damage that followed the vizier’s death.
At the Saadian Tombs, you’ll see the ornate burial places of members of the Saadian dynasty, a historic site that was overlooked for many years before becoming one of Marrakech’s popular attractions.
After a full day of sightseeing, you’ll return to your hotel or riad to relax.
After breakfast, you’ll leave Marrakech and travel toward the coastal city of Essaouira, a picturesque fishing town on Morocco’s southwest coast.
With a beautiful beach to the south, Essaouira has become one of the country’s most popular coastal destinations. The town is also known for its artistic character, with many Moroccan wood carvers and artists calling it home.
Essaouira has a distinctive atmosphere shaped by several cultural influences, including a noticeable European touch in its design.
As you explore, you’ll see rows of bright blue fishing boats gathered around the port.
You may hear gulls calling above the busy fish markets while waves break along the beach and against the old walls surrounding the city.
Today is yours to enjoy Essaouira at a slower pace, wandering through its open medina and browsing local art and interesting souvenirs.
Compared with the medina of Fes, Essaouira’s cobblestone streets feel wider and more relaxed. Its whitewashed walls add to the fresh coastal atmosphere, making this a peaceful place to enjoy the final part of your Morocco journey.
You’ll have the chance to walk along the old fortified walls, see the historic cannons, and look out over the ocean. Essaouira is also known for its strong coastal winds, which have made the area popular for activities such as windsurfing.
Take some time to stop at one of the small cafés for a strong Moroccan coffee or a fresh pastry while enjoying the surroundings.
Later, you can walk along the beach and feel the soft sand beneath your feet.
For an authentic lunch experience, you may choose a local fish restaurant, where fresh seafood and Moroccan bread can be enjoyed in the open air.
Today, you’ll leave Essaouira and return to Casablanca, bringing you back to the city where your Morocco journey began.
After everything you’ve experienced over the past 13 days, use this final full day to slow down and take in the atmosphere of Morocco one more time.
Keep your camera nearby and capture even the simple, everyday scenes around you. Often, these ordinary moments become some of the best memories to share with friends and family when you return home.
Enjoy every moment of your last full day in Morocco and take time to appreciate the character, colors, and atmosphere that have made this journey so memorable.
Today, you’ll be transferred to the airport in Casablanca for your departure.
It’s time to say goodbye to your driver and to Morocco after two memorable weeks of travel, discovery, and unforgettable experiences.
As your journey comes to an end, you’ll leave with lasting memories of the cities, landscapes, people, and moments you experienced along the way.
We hope your time in Morocco has been truly enjoyable, and you’ll always be welcome to return.
